The tightest limit you will meet

10 KB is roughly one two-hundredth of a modern phone photo, and whether it is achievable depends entirely on what the image contains. A signature or thumb impression — dark ink on white paper, almost no colour variation — compresses to that size while staying perfectly legible. A photograph of a face does not, and any tool promising otherwise is simply going to hand you something blurry.

So when a form specifies 10 KB, read the surrounding instructions carefully. It almost always also specifies small pixel dimensions, often something like 140 × 60 for a signature. Resize to those dimensions first and the size target stops being a fight.

The failure people actually hit at this size is the opposite one: the file comes out too small. Portals that specify 10 KB usually mean a range — 10 to 20 KB is the classic — and reject anything under the floor. A tightly cropped signature can easily land at 4 or 5 KB. When that happens, scale the image up rather than compressing less: more pixels at the same quality produce a bigger file, which is exactly what you need.

How does the tool get the image under 10 KB?
