How does the compression work?

Will text still be selectable?
No — this is the honest trade-off. Because pages are re-encoded as images, the compressed PDF looks and prints the same but text can no longer be selected or searched. If you need selectable text, keep the original alongside the compressed copy.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. Rendering and rebuilding happen in your browser via JavaScript. Contracts, bank statements, medical records, and IDs never touch a server — which is the main reason to use this over upload-based compressors.
Why did my PDF barely shrink?
PDFs that are already mostly compressed images (like phone-scanned documents from a good scanner app) have less room to shrink at high quality. Try the 'Smallest file' level, or the size-target pages if you need to hit a hard limit.
Does it work with password-protected PDFs?
