Frequently asked questions.
Will resizing distort my image?
No. When the target size has a different aspect ratio than your image, the tool scales the image to fill the frame and center-crops the overflow — the standard approach for thumbnails and profile photos. With ratio lock enabled on custom sizes, proportions are preserved exactly.
Does making an image bigger reduce quality?
Enlarging beyond the original dimensions can't add detail — the result will be somewhat softer. Downscaling (the common case) keeps images sharp. For best results, start from the largest original you have.
What's the difference between resizing and compressing?
Resizing changes the pixel dimensions (e.g. 4000×3000 → 1280×720). Compressing reduces file size at the same dimensions by encoding more efficiently. They're often combined — our Image Compressor handles the file-size side.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser with the canvas API. ID photos, documents, and personal pictures never leave your device.
